Rubies are the red variety of the mineral corundum, composed of aluminum and oxygen (Al2O3), and the presence of chromium is what gives this stone the so much desired red colour.Its presence can also cause natural fluorescence, which further enhances its red color intensity.
Treatment:
Heating is a common treatment to enhance the color of Sapphires, Rubies, and many other gemstones, and this stone was heated. This is a permanent treatment, stable, and non reversible.
Since rubies are subject to very intense heat around 1500 Celsius / 2700 Fahrenheit, it is common to see fractures in the stone that self heal after heating, leaving residues.
This stone has only minor healed fissures only visible under proper magnification.
